If you are one of the many who deem yourself a Costco superfan, a trip to California may soon be in order to peruse the aisles of what will be one of the country’s largest locations. After lots of legal back-and-forth, a location in northwest Fresno will be replaced by a “massive 219,000-square-foot warehouse,” according to Amanda Bartlett at SF Gate.

Costco Wholesale has won a green light from the Fresno City Council to relocate its existing West Shaw Avenue store to a new, larger location on West Herndon Avenue, a few miles to the northwest. The council unanimously approved a cluster of zoning, planning and environmental actions that will allow Costco to develop a 22.4-acre site at the northeast corner of Herndon Avenue and Riverside Drive.

Ten years ago this week, Fresno’s fastest-growing shopping center got off to a “modest” 300,000 square-foot start with a new Target, Ross, Petco, Burlington, Marshall’s and more. Rich Development, Gryphon Capital and N3 Real Estate partnered on the $74 million Marketplace at El Paseo development at Highway 99 and Herndon Avenue.

The list of options for shopping and dining is expanding in Northwest Fresno. Crews were seen turning dirt on a new space for businesses in the Marketplace at El Paseo on Wednesday.

Same spot. Different burgers. National chain Wayback Burgers has closed its only location in Fresno, but a local, family-owned burger spot has already reopened in the same spot. The restaurant is in the Marketplace at El Paseo shopping center near Highway 99 and Herndon Avenue, in one of the outbuildings facing Riverside Drive.
